IPv6 Upgrade: Cisco® Catalyst 6500 and 7600 Platform Supervisor Engines

The Office of Management and Budget and Department of Defense mandates for core networks to be IPv6 capable by June 2008 provides impetus for customers to upgrade the Supervisor Engines of their Catalyst 6500 and Cisco 7600 platforms.  Customers currently using Supervisor Engine 2 should strongly consider replacing that Supervisor with Supervisor Engine 720 or Supervisor 32.  The Supervisor Engine 2 is limited to IPv6 in software while the Supervisor Engine 720 and Supervisor 32 perform IPv6 forwarding in hardware which provides better performance.  Additionally, the Supervisor Engine 2 is End of Sale effective March 2007.
