Infoblox - The DNS Security Extensions, or DNSSEC, with Cricket
The first cache poisoning attack on the Internet was carried out over ten years ago, in 1997. Since then, we've seen a variety of vulnerabilities that could lead to cache poisoning, but we've always been able to address them--until the Kaminsky vulnerability. Dan Kaminsky's vulnerability isn't a problem in implementations of DNS; it's a problem in DNS's design. While we've come up with stopgap measures, we need a complete solution to the Kaminsky vulnerability: the DNS Security Extensions, or DNSSEC.
This presentation describes the vulnerabilities that compel us to implement DNSSEC and then gives a high-level overview of DNSSEC itself: What it does, how it does it, and why it's taken more than 15 years for us to deploy it.
