Why sustainability matters now
Sustainability is a growing priority for corporations. Eighty percent of consumers say they're willing to pay more for eco-friendly products, and global sustainability assets under management are projected to reach $34 trillion by 2026.
How can you stay on top of the sustainability curve? WWT, in keeping with the market and AI demands, has developed several offerings. Two of those offerings are data center energy impact assessments and customized carbon reports.
WWT's CarbonTechAware advantage
Both offerings utilize specific product emissions from WWT's industry-leading CarbonTechAware database. CarbonTechAware is a database of more than 10,000 IT hardware models, featuring Product Carbon Footprints, Life Cycle Assessments and Environmental Product Declarations. Utilizing the specific energy consumption and emissions estimates created by leading IT OEMs allows for several benefits, including the fact that specific estimates from the suppliers can sometimes be lower than government-created spend-based estimates.
When product-specific data isn't available, government-created spend-based estimates are typically used. However, these can penalize customers who invest in energy-efficient hardware, as industry averages are often outdated and don't reflect newer technologies.
WWT's OEM partners are leaders in energy efficiency, making product-specific estimates more accurate and often lower than spend-based alternatives.
Data center energy impact assessments
WWT has developed an innovative data center energy impact assessment where electricity-related carbon emission, consumption and cost estimates are made based on OEM-specific data. Moreover, WWT will walk you through the key concepts of sustainability for data center operators with tailored workshops.
This program had great success with a major financial client who said, "Being able to provide product and location-specific carbon estimates to our client for multiple different data center architectures clearly differentiated WWT from the rest of the market."
Custom carbon reports for Scope 3 emissions
Customized carbon reports are another area where WWT is seeing strong client interest. Companies face growing pressure to report emissions due to evolving regulations and stakeholder expectations across their supply chains. Using its industry-unique CarbonTechAware database, WWT creates personalized reports that help clients calculate, forecast and monitor their Scope 3 emissions. This report will cover emissions from products purchased, logistics, business travel and allocated additional emissions associated with a given data center initiative or purchase.
A major life sciences firm found strong value in WWT's customized carbon reports. According to their WWT account manager, "Carbon reports customized for individual clients reinforce WWT's thought leadership and differentiate our value in a crowded marketplace. Our client saw value in the carbon report we created for their global partnership with WWT over the entire year of 2024. The product-specific and location-specific carbon estimates provided helped propel them to a new level of understanding of their sustainability goals and targets, while expanding the partnership and collaboration between our organizations."
Beyond reporting: Expanding sustainability services
In addition to carbon reports and energy impact assessments, WWT offers a range of services to help organizations advance their sustainability maturity, from reducing data center energy consumption to setting Net Zero targets, building supplier engagement programs, and hosting tailored workshops on data analytics and AI.
These efforts are especially valuable as companies work toward Net Zero goals, which often require purchasing carbon offsets. By using more precise emissions estimates, WWT helps clients lower their total emissions footprint and, in turn, reduce the number of offsets needed to meet their targets.
