Two Community Hospitals Install Real-time Location System to Consolidate User Interface and Database

This highly scalable, real-time location system (RTLS) solution can be used with bar codes and passive RFID tags for tracking and are read with a handheld scanner

Challenge

This customer needed a state-of-the-art asset management system to track all hospital-owned portable medical equipment for their two newest community hospitals. The objective was to have a single user interface to manage all serialized equipment to track location and use patterns. The customer also wanted a single database that could be used to track devices for service and preventative maintenance.

Solution

WWT provided a highly scalable, real-time location system (RTLS) solution that can be used with bar codes and passive RFID tags that are read with a handheld scanner. In addition, assets can be tracked via active WiFi tracking tags that use wireless access points located throughout the hospitals to track the devices in real time.

Conclusion

The customer will achieve its objective of having a robust, easy-to-use, single database that can track and validate serialized medical equipment via bar codes, RFID and WiFi tags.
