From WWT's DevOps practice, Matthew Perry, Senior Director of DevOps Enablement and Tyler Hatton, Technical Solutions Architect, discuss the challenges that our customers face around DevOps. They also review how WWT can help customers in this practice and WWT's capabilities and solutions in DevOps.

Automation alone will not save you. In this session, we described the five dragons that cause modernization efforts to fail even when you hire excellent people and buy the best tools.

This session provided an introductory overview of GitLab's CI/CD capabilities. We also explored key GitLab CI/CD concepts, including the basics of setting up a GitLab pipeline using the GitLab Auto-DevOps one-click feature, modifying a GitLab pipeline using basic BASH shell scripting, and introducing the idea of using docker-in-docker containers as part of a pipeline.

As we approach the 15th anniversary of DevOps, we find ourselves at a crossroads. While DevOps was initially conceived to break down silos and enhance communication for stability, reliability, availability, and security, the proliferation of tools has unintentionally created new complexities and silos. What if we could embark on a paradigm shift, rather than an incremental one, based on lessons learned along the way? In this presentation, System Initiative reflected on the lessons learned throughout the DevOps journey and explored how we, as a community, can transform how we collaborate to build and maintain complex infrastructure. Whether you're a seasoned DevOps expert or just embarking on this journey, this talk will provide valuable insights into the role you can play in ushering in the "second wave of DevOps." We'll discuss the capabilities we see as necessary in a new platform and explore what's possible when we are no longer constrained by the current state of the system that we, together, have created over the last 15 years.
