For decades, the St. Louis Business Journal has profiled the top privately held companies in the region in our Top 150 section. This is always one of the most-anticipated issues of the year because of the research and detail that is put into each of the stories.

We contact hundreds of companies to create this list and tell the stories about how they have grown, who runs them and their hiring plans for the coming year.

The section is a resource for the entire St. Louis business community.

We're taking it a step further in 2018, expanding the List to 200 companies to create the "150+."

The top of the list is again dominated by some familiar names — Enterprise, World Wide Technology, Graybar and Edward Jones. The 50 added this year include SumnerOne, Mid America Logistics, MC Hotel Construction and Consort Homes.

All told, these 200 privately held companies have more than $139 billion in revenue and employ 92,076 locally and more than 368,000 in total. They are the backbone of the St. Louis business community.
