Solution overview

The Cisco HyperFlex (HX) solution is an all Cisco solution running on top of their UCS compute platform utilizing Fabric Interconnects (FIs). For customers, what this means is that Cisco will take first call support, regardless of whether the issue is hardware or software.

A customer can choose units that are right sized for the needs, which include 1U and 2U options with the UCS C-Series servers, each of which have different advantages to meet requirements. Additionally, the HyperFlex solution can seamlessly integrate with existing UCS blades to scale compute, or use existing FIs to help reduce the cost of the solution. The building block approach to the solution clustered with a minimum of 3 nodes with a recommended maximum 64 nodes in a single cluster (when using VMware). Cisco also offers a 2, 3, and 4 node ROBO solution that does not require FIs. This environment is mostly used for live demo of the HyperFlex platform and capabilities. WWT has additional HyperFlex environments for proof of concepts that can go deeper into performance and RAS testing.

The HyperFlex software (formally SpringPath) which is installed on top of Cisco hardware, offers a variety of features that include, but are not limited to:
  • Intuitive HTML5 cluster management
  • Centralized compute hardware management
  • Storage management and configuration
  • Network management and configuration
  • High level environment metrics and analytics

Cisco's offering can also include cloud based management of the infrastructure with Intersight.
