WWT's Chief Technology Advisor Rick Piña shares his insights on how—from an acquisition's perspective—the U.S. Department of Defense can be more agile and efficient operationally. He says that agile acquisition is an "oxymoron" with many significant challenges, but there are strategies leaders can implement to run efficiently and be more innovative.

A shift in modern warfare means that data and technology are as important to military defense as physical weapons. The DoD is placing greater emphasis on using modern, data-driven technologies to enable fast and timely decision-making that can mean life or death for civilians and the warfighter. Piña discusses emerging technologies and their potential to revolutionize modern defense. Piña answers the following questions:

1. How can the Department of Defense, one of the largest organizations in the world, be more nimble and innovative?

2. What emerging technologies — AI, 5G, or others — will have the greatest impact on DOD's mission over the next decade?
