Commanding the Cloud: Cisco CloudCenter

Why Cisco CloudCenter is perfect for hybrid IT strategies and how WWT can extend its capabilities with out-of-the-box integrations.

Many organizations are pursuing a hybrid IT strategy that includes traditional on-premise data center operations with pay-per-use private or public cloud Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and/or Platform as a Service (PaaS). Although organizations are finding this approach gives IT the agility they need to meet business demands, implementation and management can be complex. That's where an application-defined cloud management platform comes in.

Cisco CloudCenter is an application-focused hybrid cloud management platform that securely provisions infrastructure resources and deploys applications to the data center, private cloud or public cloud. Application-centric technology allows users to quickly and easily build a cloud-independent application profile that defines the deployment and management requirements of an entire application stack. Then, with a single click, the application profile and related components can be deployed to any data center or cloud environment.

CloudCenter was formerly known as CliQr before Cisco acquired the company in April of 2016.

 Cisco CloudCenter in the ATC: Update

Before Cisco's acquisition, WWT had deployed CliQr in our Advanced Technology Center (ATC) and was familiar with its technical advantages. Post acquisition, we've continued to experiment with CloudCenter and have built out new CloudCenter integrations in the ATC. These include out-of-the-box integrations into the following environments:

  • Multiple VMware vCenter instances
  • ACI enabled vCenter
  • NSX enabled vCenter
  • Cisco Metacloud
  • Microsoft Azure
  • Amazon Web Services

In addition, WWT is extending CloudCenter by using the extensible APIs to automate other data center elements such as F5 and Infoblox, with near-term plans for additional integrations.

We believe CloudCenter can help simplify the complexities of implementing and managing a hybrid cloud with its business relevant feature sets and focus on consumable application services. Expect more CloudCenter integrations from us soon.
