Starting in 2022, Panda Express partnered with World Wide Technology (WWT) to launch its loyalty program nationwide and accelerate digital and data transformation. As part of that journey, leveraging AWS cloud services, WWT helped Panda reimagine its mobile app and establish a new consumer-facing loyalty and rewards program.

The power of AWS cloud services

In spearheading Panda's new digital program, WWT's development team worked alongside Panda's Digital team to deliver the solution's various technical components.

Together, we leveraged key AWS cloud offerings and services, including AWS ECS, AWS RDS, AWS S3 and AWS CloudWatch.

AWS saved our development cohort a significant amount of time and effort. We took full advantage of the AWS platform's hyper-scalability, big data systems, autoscaling capabilities and serverless application layers to build a mobile ordering app capable of seamlessly interacting with millions of daily guests and delivering the types of differentiated promotional events that brought Panda's unique brand experience to life.

Results

Panda's partnership with WWT and AWS has successfully expanded the new app and rewards program to more than 16 million loyalty members since launch, garnering more than $1 billion in sales from Panda Rewards members thus far. Panda Express was also recognized by Ipsos as the #1 brand out of 26 brands ranked by mystery shoppers in its 2024 QSR/Fast Casual Restaurant Digital Ordering Performance study, where Panda received both the highest score overall and for app benefits.
