Solution Overview
Since 2010, Cisco continues it's innovation momentum by offering new releases of the Unified Communications software every 12 to 18 months.  As a result, the need to perform upgrades and refreshes on a regular basis is more important than ever to take advantages of the new features, security enhancements, and productivity improvements.

Learn the Unified Communications upgrade methodology and perform an upgrade of the major components, including Call Manager, Unity Connection, and Instant Messaging & Presence servers.   Use this 4 hour upgrade lab to perform an upgrade on these components and gain valuable insight into the process that you may apply in your own environment.   Use the lab to build a checklist or procedure document for your future upgrade.  Once the lab is complete, you will have a functioning UC 11.5 environment that you may use to test new features and perform testing that you would not be able to do in a production environment.

Goals & Objectives

This sandbox allows users to upgrade Cisco Communication Manager, Cisco Unity Connection and Cisco IM & Presence from 10.5 to 11.5.  It shows the user interface of the release and allows engineers to upgrade and test functionality of the system. 

Participants will learn:
  • How to backup the various CSR 10.5 components
  • How to safely upgrade all components of a Collaboration system release
  • Testing upgraded components for proper functionality

  • Cisco Unity Connection 10.5
  • Cisco Instant Messaging & Presence 10.5
  • Cisco Prime License Manager
  • Linux-based SFTP Server
  • Microsoft AD/DNS
  • Microsoft Exchange
  • Windows 7 Virtual Desktops with Cisco Jabber and IP Communicator
  • VMware Horizon environment for media-rich desktop experience
