Navigate the Tree

Solution overview

In this lab you learn to move around a Linux system's single directory tree, which starts at the root, /. You check where you are with pwd, list the top of the tree and match each name to a reference map of what every directory is for, and reach directories deep in the tree with absolute paths. You let Tab completion type long names for you and list the choices when a name is ambiguous. Then you climb with .., jump home with ~ and back with cd -, and predict where a relative path lands before you run it. You finish by finding hidden files and proving that Linux filenames are case sensitive.
