NetApp FabricPool

FabricPool, first available in ONTAP 9.2, is a NetApp Data Fabric technology that enables automated tiering of data to low-cost object storage tiers either on or off-premises.

Unlike manual tiering solutions, FabricPool reduces the total cost of ownership by automating the tiering of data to lower the cost of storage. It delivers the benefits of cloud economics by tiering to public clouds such as Amazon S3, IBM Cloud Object Storage, Microsoft Azure Blob Storage as well as to private clouds created with NetApp StorageGRID.

FabricPool, first introduced in ONTAP 9.2, is a NetApp Data Fabric technology that enables automated tiering of data from an all-flash appliance to low-cost object storage tiers either on or off premises using user-defined inactivity thresholds.  Unlike manual tiering solutions, FabricPool is a built-in feature to ONTAP that reduces the total cost of ownership by automating the tiering of data to lower the cost of storage. It delivers the benefits of cloud economics by tiering to public clouds such as Amazon S3, IBM Cloud Object Storage, Microsoft Azure Blob Storage as well as on-premise, to NetApp StorageGrid or ONTAP S3.

In this lab, users that are interested in NetApp's FabricPool features will be able to

• Login to ONTAP System Manager
• Navigate to external storage tier configuration and view the existing implementation
• Review the policy configuration for data eviction
• Review how data in each tier of storage is being reported
