Solution Overview

Nutanix software is installed on pre-validated hardware. In this lab, the hardware is Nutanix branded SuperMicro gear. Nutanix offers a variety of hardware to choose from including (but not limited to):

  • SuperMicro
  • Cisco
  • Dell
  • HPE
  • Lenovo

Each of these vendors offers slightly different forms of support for customers. OEM solutions will be single vendor support through the chosen platform and software-only solutions (such as Nutanix running on top of Cisco) will be Nutanix support as first call, but vendor-specific for hardware replacement.

A customer can choose units that are right-sized for the needs, which include 1U and 2U options, that have different advantages to meet application requirements. The building block approach to the solution can start with as little as a single node for very small sites, to hundreds for large enterprises.

The Nutanix software offers a variety of features that include, but are not limited to:

  • Intuitive HTML5 centralized management
  • Virtual machine management and configuration
  • Storage management and configuration
  • Network management and configuration
  • Detailed environment metrics and analytics

This lab will walk a user through some basic concepts and the Nutanix Prism interface. It is highly recommended to have HCI concepts before going through the lab. You can get a primer on hyper-converged infrastructure as well as a specialized look at Nutanix.

Goals & Objectives

In this lab, the Nutanix software has already been pre-deployed. You may easily walk through the Nutanix HTML5 Prism interface to familiarize yourself with single cluster management, running AHV, on a daily basis.

After completing the lab, you should be able to:
  1. Understand the main dashboard
  2. Check overall health of the systems
  3. Take a look at VM management interface and create new VMs
  4. Storage management and datastore creation
  5. Snapshot creation and replication
  6. Performance dashboard overview and customization
  7. Overview of Alerts and Events
  8. Basic environment settings and configuration
