Automation.Day STL '24 - Automate VMWare migrations to OpenShift Virtualization with AAP
In this session, Stuart Kirk, Principal Solutions Architect, Red Hat, presented on how to utilize Ansible Automation Platform (AAP) to automate the migration of virtual machines to OpenShift Virtualization, bringing all the benefits Ansible provides: speed, scale, and consistency.
Using Ansible playbooks, roles, and certified collections, we connected an AAP deployment to OpenShift Virtualization to create, populate, and automatically execute a virtual machine migration plan directly from AAP. After selecting the appropriate virtual machines from vSphere, AAP generated and ran the required migration plan to perform the migration without user interaction with OpenShift.
We also demonstrated provisioning greenfield Virtual Machines and "Day 2" activities when provisioning new hosts. When you consider automation at scale for this use case, combined with day two tasks on newly migrated hosts, the value of the Ansible and OpenShift integration was well demonstrated.
