A Practical Guide to Quantum Computing: Part I - Understanding Quantum
In the first of our two-part series, we explore core quantum concepts, hardware types, SDKs, simulators and the state of the emerging quantum computing ecosystem.
Executive summary
World Wide Technology (WWT) conducted a five-week internal Research and Development initiative to explore real-world quantum computing applications. Our Data Science team experimented with different quantum environments, cloud platforms and software development kits (SDKs) to assess platform readiness, improve team skills and identify practical usage insights on how best to use quantum computing technology to tackle business problems.
This article is the first of a two-part series. Part 1 establishes the technical foundation to provide a grounded understanding of today's quantum capabilities and limitations. Part 2 builds upon this foundation with WWT's hands-on experimentation, platform benchmarking and practical takeaways for enterprise adoption. Readers familiar with the basics of quantum computing may jump directly to Part 2.
