Partnering with NetApp

As data continues to grow at an unprecedented pace, the need for innovative storage solutions has never been greater. In November, the Associate Academy had the privilege of spotlighting NetApp as our Partner of the Month—a company that has redefined how organizations manage, protect, and move data across environments. Through engaging sessions, we explored NetApp's history, its cutting-edge technologies, and the collaborative spirit that drives success for customers and partners alike.

Understanding the Storage Landscape

We kicked things off by diving into the rapidly evolving storage market and NetApp's unique role in shaping its future. The conversation highlighted:

  • Market Momentum: The storage market is booming, fueled by AI, cloud adoption, and the explosion of unstructured data—which now accounts for nearly 80% of all data.
  • Technology Evolution: The shift from HDDs to SSDs reflects a relentless pursuit of speed, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Unified Architecture: NetApp stands out by supporting block, file, and object protocols within a single, unified platform—simplifying complexity for customers.
  • FlexPod Collaboration: Through partnerships like ours, NetApp delivers integrated solutions that optimize data center performance.

This discussion reminded us that storage isn't just about capacity—it's about enabling innovation.

Flexibility and Simplicity at Scale

Our next discussion focused on why NetApp matters in today's hybrid and multi-cloud world. We explored how ONTAP, NetApp's flagship operating system, delivers flexibility across protocols and platforms, ensuring seamless data movement between on-prem and cloud environments.

Key insights included:

  • Customer-Centric Design: Simplicity and flexibility are at the heart of NetApp's solutions, driving operational efficiency and customer success.
  • Cloud Integration: NetApp's partnerships with major cloud providers empower businesses to innovate without boundaries.
  • Security and Innovation: Continuous enhancements keep customers ahead in a competitive landscape.
  • ATC Ecosystem: NetApp's presence in our Advanced Technology Center accelerates proof-of-concept testing and solution validation.

These conversations reinforced that NetApp isn't just a storage vendor—it's a strategic partner enabling transformation.

A Toast to Innovation

We closed the month with something truly special, a beer tasting inspired by NetApp's ONTAP solution and its creative beer-naming tradition. Why ONTAP? Because just like a perfectly crafted brew, ONTAP blends multiple ingredients—block, file, and object protocols—into one unified experience. It's about balance, simplicity, and delivering something exceptional every time.

Sharing stories, laughs, and a few pints reminded us that technology is about people—and the relationships that make progress possible. This celebration captured the essence of our partnership: innovative, collaborative, and a little fun along the way.

Looking Ahead

NetApp's commitment to unified storage, flexibility, and simplicity aligns perfectly with our mission to deliver world‑class solutions for our customers. But beyond the technology itself, this month reminded us just how meaningful strong partner collaboration can be. The time, energy, and genuine enthusiasm that NetApp brought to each session didn't just educate our cohort—it elevated the entire Associate Academy experience.

From deep technical conversations to the creatively themed ONTAP beer tasting, these engagements broadened our perspective on the storage landscape, sharpened our understanding of unified architecture, and deepened our appreciation for what's possible when partners truly invest in developing future talent. We were especially grateful to hear from Jerry Eagen and Steve Blanco, NetApp's National Technical Partner Managers, whose insights and leadership added tremendous value to our discussions. We also appreciated the expertise of WWT Technical Solutions Architects Dale Darby and John Lockhousen, who walked us through the evolving storage ecosystem along with the tools, frameworks, and ATC resources used to help customers modernize, secure, and optimize their data environments. Together, these conversations showcased the openness, expertise, and collaborative spirit that made this month's partnership so impactful.

That spirit of partnership was captured perfectly by Jerry Eagen, who shared his perspective on the Academy's impact:

As we raise a glass to November's Partner of the Month, we look forward to continuing this journey together—driving innovation, solving complex challenges, and creating value at every turn.

Meet the Author

Hi there! I'm a Technical Associate in the Associate Academy based in Denver, proud to be part of WWT since July 2025. My professional background includes several years at Raytheon, where I focused on software programming and project management, as well as aerospace systems architecture and design. These experiences shaped my passion for solving complex problems and driving innovation through collaboration and structure.

Academically, I hold a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Missouri and recently completed a Master's in Engineering Management from George Washington University. My goal at WWT is to continue bridging technical depth with strategic execution—helping teams deliver meaningful solutions that scale.

Outside of work, I love finding a good golf course, coffee shop or brewery, and am especially excited to watch some playoff football this winter. Whether I'm grilling out or catching a game, I find the most joy in sharing great food and making lasting memories with friends and family.
