Industry Partner Enhances Classified IT Environment
Challenge
Standing up capability-rich facilities for classified work isn't just a logistical hurdle — it's a strategic challenge that can delay mission-critical operations. The complexity of government accreditation, infrastructure procurement and secure connectivity can slow even the most capable organizations.
This was the challenge facing an Industry Partner (IP) as it aimed to enhance its IT enterprise within a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) to better serve a key federal client. As the Industry Partner Access Managed Service Provider (IPA-MSP) entrusted with delivering secure network, collaboration services and cloud connectivity on behalf of the federal client, WWT was uniquely positioned to provide a comprehensive, high-touch service experience — seamlessly supporting the IP's secure network, desktop and collaboration infrastructure needs.
WWT simplified the IP's path to supporting its client's missions and paved the way for robust IT capabilities across multiple secure sites.
Solution
The power of IT on demand
WWT provides an array of complementary IPA-MSP offerings, giving industry partners a one-stop shop for all their secure IT needs — from everyday communication and collaboration tools to advanced cloud, software and data solutions.
One of these offerings is WWT's SCIF IT On-demand fully managed service, which delivers accredited network and desktop architectures from design through installation. Upon learning about the offering, the IP saw an opportunity to efficiently and cost-effectively bolster its SCIF capabilities.
A turnkey solution for SCIF success
With SCIF IT On-demand, we delivered turnkey infrastructure tailored around secure government connectivity, supporting traditional desktops, conference room systems and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solutions. The approach prioritized scalability, speed and, above all, compliance with demanding government security standards.
WWT experts started by leading engineering and design sessions to align the IP's operational needs with the federal client's security requirements. From there, we handled procurement and supply chain logistics to streamline technology delivery.
The initial deployment included 42 traditional desktops and a secure conference room in a SCIF that serves as a central hub for work supporting the federal client. In short order, our team constructed the network infrastructure to connect desktops securely to both government and industry partner classified networks.
Throughout the engagement, WWT led the full deployment lifecycle — from racking and stacking hardware to virtualization, testing and implementation.
The IP was so pleased with the speed and success of the initial deployment that it expanded its use of SCIF IT On-demand services to several more sites. In total, deployment would comprise:
- First site: 42 desktops, 1 conference room
- Expansion at the first site: 30 additional desktops.
- Second site: 35 desktops, 3 conference rooms, 250 phones
- Third site: 30 desktops, 13 conference rooms, 100 phones
- Fourth site: 30 desktops, 7 conference rooms, 100 phones
Outcomes
With feature-rich secure IT solutions at multiple sites, the IP can now support the connectivity and collaboration requirements of multiple federal clients. By transitioning to a virtualized architecture for later site deployments, it was able to scale efficiently without new hardware, while secure phones and collaboration tools deliver a consistent user experience across multiple locations.
Most notably, WWT's turnkey solution compressed the timeline from contract to full accreditation, reducing it from months or even years to just weeks. This allowed the IP to meet pressing government deadlines. Initial success prompted rapid expansion across additional sites, dramatically increasing the IP's capacity for classified work.
By partnering with WWT, the IP avoided the cost and complexity of managing secure infrastructure in-house and gained a proven foundation to support its federal client's most sensitive missions. As government needs evolve, the IP can rely on WWT to deliver scalable, on-demand IT solutions that keep pace with its growing federal business.
