WWT Helps Drive Broadcast Industry Forward with New Technology Authorization

St. Louis, MO – September 11, 2018 – World Wide Technology (WWT), a market-leading technology solution provider, today announced that they are the first Cisco Partner to achieve the official authorization for the Cisco IP Fabric for Media (IPFM) solution. In coming years, the Cisco solution will break down the physical barriers of remote/local broadcast production and facilitate scalable transition of video formats (such as HD to 4K) to allow for more dynamic production video workflows as well as lower total cost of ownership.

Today, the broadcast industry uses Serial Digital Interface (SDI) to transport video and audio signals within a production broadcast environment, with the SDI Router being a central component to route video. As this environment converges to IP, the network will essentially serve as the video router with the Cisco IP Fabric for Media providing this function based upon the industry-leading NEXUS 9K platform. This has similarities and benefits to how the traditional Voice PBX converged to the IP network in the early 2000s.

“As the broadcast market makes the transition to IP, WWT has invested in creating a specific media initiative to help drive innovation,” said Kraig Ecker, WWT vice president for Global Service Provider. “We are proud to be the first Cisco Partner to achieve the IP Fabric for Media authorization as validation of our commitment to helping the market move forward and of our expertise in the field.”

As traditional broadcast technology transitions to IP, there are many complexities to consider, such as the software virtualization of traditional hardware appliances, successful deployment of software defined networks, storage and the strategic migration of services.

“Cisco and WWT have had a long and successful partnership to help broadcasters embrace emerging IP-based solutions that help them do everything better and faster,” said Bryan Bedford, Cisco senior manager for Partner Ecosystems. “WWT’s investment in the broadcast space demonstrates its commitment to strengthen the media ecosystem and to speed the market transition to IP.”

“The future of live broadcasting will rely on systems integration partners that can bring the traditional broadcast together with the IP world, said James Stellpflug, EVS vice president for Product Marketing. “WWT’s Advanced Technology Center (ATC) lab space allows customers to test their IP-based deployments to facilitate faster deployment of their projects to successfully gain market space.”

WWT brings many years of experience in the IT space and has created a broadcast media focused team to help the broadcast market make this transition. WWT is also a member of the Alliance for IP Media Solutions (AIMS), a non-profit trade alliance that promotes the open standards that broadcast and media companies use to move from legacy SDI systems to a virtualized, IP-based future.
