David Ball is a Technical Solutions Architect on WWT's multicloud team and was recently selected as an Amazon Web Services (AWS) Amazon Partner Network (APN) Ambassador, one of a select few in the world. We sat down with David to gain further insight on what exactly an AWS APN Ambassador does, how it can affect engagement with customers and how his roles impacts WWT.

What does an AWS APN Ambassador do?

There are individuals who are passionate about the seemingly limitless possibilities provided by the AWS platform to solve complex challenges. AWS APN Ambassadors share this passion, but also add to it the desire to share their experiences with the technical community for the benefit of all through blog posts, podcasts, case studies, AWS Immersion Days and webinars, to name a few.

How did you become involved in this?

In early 2017, I was a data center engineer focusing primarily on VMware and Cisco UCS solutions and I enjoyed it, but I woke up one day with a strong urge to explore AWS in greater depth. My affection for the AWS platform grew as I learned and explored its possibilities and potential impact for my customers. To this day my excitement for AWS has not wavered, and I continue to share my experiences primarily through blog posts and periodic webinars/podcasts, and I relish the opportunity to evangelize AWS with our customers through AWS Immersion Days. I was surprised to be nominated by Sean Doyle and am humbled to be part of the program. If you would like to become an AWS APN Ambassador, my advice is to learn and share.

How will being an AWS APN Ambassador help you when engaging on customer projects?

First, from a customer perspective, I hope my status as an AWS APN ambassador provides them with confidence — the confidence to know that WWT has a proven track record for deploying great solutions and while also enabling our customers to support their solution through interactive knowledge transfer sessions. Second, I'll have access to the combined experience of the other ambassadors within the program as a resource to help deliver successful customer projects.

How has your role at WWT prepared you to be an AWS APN Ambassador?

My role at WWT has provided me the opportunity to interact with customers and co-workers in ways I had only imagined at previous employers. Through our wide variety of customers, I have been fortunate to deliver projects requiring the enablement of a wide variety of AWS services. Being a Cloud Platform Architect has deepened my affection for AWS and increased my desire to share my experiences, and any knowledge attained, with the technology community.
