Virtualization Migration Strategy Workshop

8 hours

The Virtualization Migration Strategy Workshop is designed to guide IT professionals through the complexities of migrating between on-premises hypervisor platforms such as Hyper-V, Nutanix, OpenShift Virtualization, VMware and others.

This comprehensive workshop equips participants with the essential knowledge to assess their current infrastructure, plan strategically for migration and execute the transition with minimal disruption. Core migration principles applicable across hypervisors are covered and dive deep into strategies to ensure participants can make informed decisions tailored to their unique environments.

What to Expect

Participants will learn about design considerations, hardware and software requirements, and operational best practices to maintain system performance and scalability post-migration. The workshop itself will focus on gathering all the data necessary to develop a realistic strategy.

The final output of the workshop is a 5-page strategy document that helps detail the most appropriate approach to a migration for the analyzed environment.

  • Voice of the customer
  • Integration reviews
  • Migration readiness and planning
  • General hardware and software considerations
  • Risk assessment and mitigation
  • And more

Goals & Objectives

This workshop will equip participants with the skills to plan and execute complex migrations between on-premises hypervisors; focusing on strategic planning, risk management, and practical execution steps. The source and destination hypervisors considered here can include Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV, OpenShift Virtualization, VMware vSphere and others.

Note: This workshop is a follow-up to the Virtualization Strategy Briefing and assumes the customer has that level of understanding.  Additionally, this briefing requires an export of the current state of the infrastructure via the appropriate export tool.

Workshop format

The workshop is designed to create a strategy that can be used to understand the full scope of migration.

  • Voice of the Customer (30 minutes)
    • Stakeholder introductions
    • Review key challenges, timeline and "state of the union"
  • Integration Reviews (2 hours)
    • Discuss how these are done today and if changes are expected
      • Backups
      • Disaster Recovery
      • Automation
