Software-defined storage (SDS) is computer data storage software for policy-based provisioning and management of data storage independent of the underlying hardware. SDS typically includes a form of storage virtualization to separate the storage hardware from the software that manages it.

The software that enables a SDS storage environment may also provide policy management for features such as data deduplication, replication, thin provisioning snapshots and backup.

WWT built a SDS lab with all major players and optimal server node options within our Advanced Technology Center (ATC), so clients can see firsthand the potential benefits or drawbacks of SDS for each of their specific use cases.
